Responsibilities of a Student Rep

As a Student Rep you are the voice of your peers. It is your responsibility to collect feedback from your classmates to feedback to the lecturers/support staff. You can take your lecturer for a coffee of perhaps have a tutorial with them. You are also expected to attend Programme Board meetings. These a formal meetings that everyone programme must have. It is your role as a rep to present feedback and give student opinion when needed, this is normally how any problems get resolved.

As a rep you are also expected to attend Student Rep Council. These are led by the Students’ Union as a way to get all reps talking to each other, to share best practice and to alert us of any issues that are not being dealt with. These happen once a semester.

 

Benefits of being a Student Rep

Being a Student Rep is a great opportunity to improve your relationships with both staff and students, it gives you the chance to make a difference and improve the student experience and your efforts will also be acknowledged on your HEAR 6.1.

As a Student Rep you are also a volunteer. So don’t forget to log your hours through the volunteering page on the SU website. 10 hours of volunteering means you get the Bronze Award at the Student’s Union Awards at the end of the year.

The Students’ Union will deliver a training programme and provide support to you during the Academic Year to ensure that you are able to get the most of your experience.

 

How do I become a Student Rep?

Depending on what course you are will depend how you can become a rep. Some will run an election (especially if there are more than a few of you) but most will take a written application which you will hand into your programme administrator.
