Shhh Happy Residents

Student homes . . . Happy Homes. Building a respectful community

The SU have worked with both local residents in Chichester and the student body to help build respectful communities, keeping noise to a reasonable level.

Here are our notes to local residents:

What are we doing to encourage our students to be respectful and quieT...

Regular communications with our students, with information about living in the local community and good behaviours.

Working closely with the University Accommodation Office to monitor complains and share best practice/

Meeting local neighbourhood groups to highlight the campaign and understand the issues.

Paying security staff to patrol the area to help keep our students safe and quiet.

Running the Safety Bus after late eventing events to get our students home quickly and quietly.

Things to consider...

It can be easy to tar all students with the same brush; last year’s headaches could be this year’s ideal neighbours – try not to judge students before they’ve settled in.

For some of our students this is their first time living away from home, they’re learning what that means and understanding the consequences of decisions they make.

The noise or behaviour may be thoughtless not malicious, explaining your situation and the impact their behaviour is having may be all that’s needed to get them to rethink and act differently.

What to do if you encounter noise or disrespectful students...

Speak to the students if you feel comfortable to do so, as many disagreements can be settled with a conversation.

Contact the Students’ Union who will work with the students on any issues or contact the Accommodation Office at the University.

We can visit the property with a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) to try to resolve any issues.
