Swimming

The University of Chichester Swim Team sells itself on being a team for all. Whether you have always been a competitive swimmer or have been in the past, swim for fun/fitness, or haven’t really swum before, we’d love you to join our team.

Some of our competitive and fitness swimmers are selected every year to travel to Sheffield to compete in 3 separate BUCS (British Universities and College Sport) competitions. Furthermore, everyone (competitive or fitness swimmers) are invited to compete in the Varsity competition against Winchester. Team spirit is phenomenal.

Although we don’t set out to be the best university team in the country, we will always put in 100% at competitions and training. We also have a huge social aspect, just like a lot of the other teams at uni. Joining a sports team like swimming will make your uni experience better than you could imagine. You will form friendships that will last years, as members of the team become your second family. Our fantastic new social secs, Jacob Humphrey and Jacob Brasier will be running socials every week before the WSIHE Wednesday (best night out of the week!) which will not fail to disappoint! As well as this, we enjoy getting together to do various days out/nights out and other activities throughout the year.

Our sessions:

  • Monday – Swimming 9-10pm @Westgate (Chichester)
  • Tuesday – Land Training 7.30-8.30pm @Gym 1 (BOC)
  • Wednesday – WSIHE (night out at Zeebar)!!!
  • Friday – Land Training 7.30-8.30am @Gym 1 (BOC)
  • Friday – Swimming 7.30-9pm @ Arun Leisure (Bognor)

Competitive swimmers are asked to attend the majority of sessions, particularly swim sessions. Fitness swimmers should also attempt to attend as many sessions as possible, as the benefits of swimming are countless. Transport will be arranged to swim training for no additional cost. Swim sessions run in both Chichester and Bognor to cater for students on either campus.

If you are interested in joining the team, and have kit at home such as kick boards, pull buoys, fins and paddles, please bring these with you. If not, don’t worry, we will source you equipment if and when it is needed.

Like all sports teams at uni, this team is run for students, by students. Our members all value their time with the team:

“Being part of swim team is one of the highlights of uni for me, from training to competitions and socials, it's always a laugh! I started uni quite shy and swim has definitely helped me settle, it's such a supportive team full of a great variety of personalities. I love the fact that there's a constant strong sense of encouragement throughout the team, which continues into the social aspect, e.g. I'm not a big drinker but still feel included in socials and nights out. Overall I love being a part of swim and couldn't imagine my university experience without it!!!” Chloe Gambrill (Current 2ndYear)

“Being a part of the university swim team was one of the best decisions that I made. As soon as I joined I felt part of a family and I'm sure that will be the same for the new freshers. No matter your ability, whether you are competitive, fitness or just here for a good time, you will fit right in. Joining this team will mean you'll make lasting friendships and you'll be part of the best team with the most amazing people. Here for a good time, not a long time.” Tom Pack (Swim Team Alumini)

“Joining the UoC Swim Team was easily the best decision of my three years of uni. Not only is the team a welcoming, fun, and loyal bunch of swimmers, but they are also a big WSIHE family. Joining this team guarantees you friends for life and is a load of fun whether it’s at training, meets, WSIHE Wednesdays or sober socials! This is a must join team; it caters for all types of swimmers, competitive or fitness, so no matter how much swim experience you have you should definitely join this family!” Sarah Sheridan (Former President)

“I have been on the swim team for 3 years and I have loved every minute of it. The team is so inclusive, and it has become more of a family than just a group of friends. Being Social Sec also helped me to get to know people so much more especially going out every WSIHE. My time on the team has made my time at Chichester so much more enjoyable.” Lauren Chapman (Current 4thYear)
