SU Societies join the Take A Stand Accreditation
Brief History
The Sports Charter was introduced in 2011 by the government and is backed by a number of major sporting bodies including: The Football Association, England and Wales Cricket Board, Lawn Tennis Association, as well as the Rugby Football League and Union.
The University of Chichester showed its support for the initiative in 2014 when over 100 students and staff signed the Sports Charter. Working alongside the LGBT+ Society and the University of Chichester Equalities and Diversity department, SU Sport introduced a Rainbow themed WSIHE Wednesday in 2015/16, giving away rainbow laces to students who signed the charter.
In 2016/17, SU Sport continued to build on the successes of previous years and brought the campaign inline with the BUCS #TakeAStand initiative that shares the same values as the initial Sports Charter. Now, SU Societies can commit to the Scheme and at the same time, show their support to inclusivity within thier Societies as well as receiving recognition at the annual SU Awards for doing so.
Why is it important to us
Every year more and more students get involved with SU Societies and become part of our WSIHE community. We would like everyone to feel comfortable and accepted. We would also ask all those involved in a Society to accept those around them.
What is the aCCREDITATION SCHEME
The scheme encourages students to learn and understand what the #TakeAStand campaign is and get themselves and others involved by completing a number suggested activities (listed below) which should help them to understand the initiative a bit more.
SU Societies who actively participate in the campaign will gain recognition at the SU Awards 2020. Each Society can work towards the following levels:
- Bronze, completing at least 3 points
- Silver, completing at least 6 points
- Gold, completing at least 9 points
