Lily-May Marshall

Hi there!

My name is Lily-May Marshall, I currently study Musical theatre (music) at the University of Chichester and I am a proud member of the Musical Theatre society. I will be standing for the role of Welfare and Inclusivity Representative. This is a matter very close to my heart as someone who is not only mixed race but also as a female with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC for short).

Within this role I would put it at my top most priority to insure that within the Student Union and the Societies that fall under it that all participants feel as though they are being heard and included. As the Welfare and inclusivity representative I would ensure that these factors were being upheld by creating a healthy means of communication between students of the university, society members and university staff. As a person I am described as someone that people confide in and I believe this is something positive I can bring to this role. Whether it be through a simple email or a friendly chat I would want to ensure that anyone within this university feel as though they are being heard and listened to, something I have experienced a lack of in my life in which I understand the issues that present without having means of healthy communication to bring up and resolve problems.

As a Woman with Autism I understand the struggles of not being included and heard. I understand the feeling of being left out and know how difficult it can be. As the Welfare and inclusivity representative I would want to ensure that the students welfare is paramount and that they feel comfortable and confident to attend and join in with societies that they may not have felt they could do in the past. An idea I had was to provide training workshops on different ways we could increase inclusivity within the student union in which would include a variety of topics such as welfare, gender equality, LGBTQ+ equality and disability representation. This would be to ensure that not only are these topics surrounding inclusivity and welfare are discussed but also about how society leaders and members can ensure that they are informed on how these topics can be introduced and developed within there society.

Thank you very much for your consideration as the Welfare and Inclusivity Representative. This is a role that is very close to my heart in which I feel very passionate about.

Please vote for Lily-May Marshall as this years Welfare and Inclusivity representative.

Many thanks,

Lily-May Marshall
