Wednesday 26th March 2018

The Univeristy of Winchester visited campus this week for a day of Varsity sport againist the WSIHE Rangers.  Winchester came to UoC Bishop Otter Campus again this year with fifteen fixtures played across the afternoon.  We weren't so lucky with the weather last Wednesday so a few outdoor fixtures fell foul to a waterlogged pitch.  However, the majority of fixtures went ahead so there was plenty of competitive sport on display.

Both sides put on some great performances and Chichester won the spoils for 2018 with 11 victories in total making it two victorious years in the Varsity games.

The biggest victory of the day belonged to the Women's Basketabll team who chalked up a 56-37 win over Winchester University's first team.  Both Men and Womens Badminton recorded 7-1 wins over Winchester's first teams.  Volleyball Men and Women also managed not to drop any points and walked off the court with 3-0 wins respectively.  Winchester won the Men's Futsal match 3-4 which was closely contested.  In a high intensity game, Chichester scored a leveller to make it 3-3 with only minutes remaining.  It wasn't enough to hold back Winchester who scored the winner moments later with a cracking effort into the top left corner.

Winchester certainly gave a good account of themselves away from home and managed to secure victories in Netball and Mens Rugby Union.  It's always a challenge playing against home advantage so well done to all the WInchester teams who played and took part in a great day of Varsity sport.

Varsity 2018 was a great way to sign off WSIHE sport for the 2017-18 academic year and we look forward to doing it all again next season!
